| How Do I choose a battery?
Choosing a battery is simple. The first step is to identify the Amp Hrs or Ah required. This is normally on your current battery. The second step is to choose between the AGM and Gel Range. Both the AGM and GEL batteries are designed for mobility style applications.
AGM Range properties
AGM batteries have been specifically designed to endure cyclic applications such as electric wheelchairs by changing the battery grid technology and chemistry to improve charge acceptance and deep discharge recovery which in turn will promote a longer life.
Gel Range properties
Gel batteries like the AGM range are designed for use in applications like electric wheelchairs. However these batteries use a Gel substance in place of the usual acid electrolyte. They offer exceptional recovery from deep discharge plus limited deterioration from extra deep discharge, and can maintain an optimum level of performance even after heavy usage over a prolonged period of time.
In summary if you mainly use the scooter for short trips and always recharge it when you return home go for a AGM battery otherwise if you use the wheelchair for long trips and always drain the battery or don't always recharge it then choose a Gel battery.
I'm registered disabled can I buy VAT free?
Unfortunately we cannot supply our batteries VAT free. This is because the batteries are general purpose items and may be used with other equipment. Revenue & Customs state:-
”4.8 Parts and accessories
You can zero rate parts and accessories which you supply to an eligible customer as defined in paragraph 3.1 provided that they were designed solely for use in or with goods which themselves qualify for VAT relief as described elsewhere in this section.
Parts means integral components without which the equipment is incomplete. Accessories means optional extras which can be used to improve the operation of the equipment, or enable it to be used, or to be used to better effect, in particular circumstances. VAT relief does not apply to general use items such as standard batteries, even if these were purchased to be used within an item which is eligible for VAT relief. If the batteries were solely designed to operate within the eligible item however, they would be eligible for relief.“
